Update.

After MANY false starts, and lots of Holiday type activities (including My Birthday today!!!), I'm on my way with my scarf. I have some time off of work and a vacation coming up, so I'll have time to work away on it....ta ta for now....am off to have a drink. :)

Complete!

I had mentioned in my previous post that I was going to use some Habu Textiles yarn for a scarf for my pal, but I just wasn't liking the pattern. Then I found some Tahki Shannon (Color 15) in my stash. Since the yarn is so bold and pretty, I went with a simple stockinette pull-through scarf pattern that I made-up my self. I crocheted the edges with some hot pink wool to bring out the pink in the yarn.

For the mittens, I decided to try a felted mitten. I used some left over purple yarn that I had and made the mittens. Then I duplicate stitched a row of hot pink around the bottom.

But that's not all! I knit some ribbed cuffs in the Shannon and sewed them inside the mittens. The cuff makes the mittens stay on better and then also ties the scarf and mittens together to make a set. I am really happy at how well they turned out that I think I might have to make a pair for myself!

Secret Scarf (& hat) sighted flying across the country!

I sent my set off to my pal today. I won't post a picture just yet, because I think it would be obvious who it is for.

Hope he likes it!

Edited to add:

My pal has received the scarf and hat, so here are the pictures:

And the secret of the scarf:

I had a lot of fun knitting this illusion scarf, so I think I'm going to make one for myself with stars.

She's done and blocked!

Well, this little one is getting ready to begin her journey tomorrow. This has been so much fun. I'm truly hoping that my exchange recipient enjoys her. I'm assuming that it will take a couple of days for this person to receive the package as she lives to the west of us. But hopefully she will receive it shortly after the first of the year and use it as she takes her walks.

Christmas is over....

So let the ISE knitting begin! It is great to finally be able to start my scarf. I am hoping to finish it by the second week of January.

Keep On Keeping On

I can't believe how many of you have finished already. Too cool! I've been trucking along on my scarf and can't wait until it's finished and out there for my pal. I really hope she likes it.

I'll have to remember to put it on something light for the next photo so the lacework shows up a little better. And some natural light so you can see all the pretty purples and rusts in the yarn. Just keep knitting. Just keep knitting. Just keep knitting, knitting, knitting...

I must be psychic LOL...

A little while ago Rose (EnchantedEwe) posted a picture of her finished scarf and that she'd mailed it across the big blue ocean, but wasn't saying which one... I read that post, drooled over the picture, went to her site and enjoyed that too and said, oh this one's for me :)

Tonight I got home after a horrible snow filled day... I do not like snow when I've got to travel through it to the office and back. Once I got home I looked in the mailbox and there was a big pile of bills and underneath a flowery envelope. As sender it said Secret Scarf Pal... I got so excited I nearly dropped the bottle of champagne I was carrying.

Ran up the stairs and dropped all my stuff in the hall and ripped open the envelope... and inside was the gorgeous scarf that I'd said would be mine hahaha. Rose it is absolutely wondertastic!!! And the smell!!!!!!!!!!!! It is heavenly!!! What did you use to wash it with??? Oh and before I forget... Rose spun and dyed the yarn herself!!!!! I'm totally in awe...
I borrowed my digital camera to a friend so I can't make a piccie tonight, but tomorrow I'm meeting the same friend for lunch so I'll ask her to make a piccie :)

Rose, thank you again, from the bottom of my scarf-warmed heart, you did a gorgeous job!!!

DONE!

That's right. I'm done! DONE! TEEEEEHEEEEE!

The problem is with the after-Christmas rush there's no way I can get NEAR the post office to mail this baby off. Looks like my pal's gonna have to wait a week or so.

Ah, feels so good to finish a scarf!

blocking question disguised as update.

I have finished my scarf finally and I have never blocked anything. Any suggestions? Do I need to block? I have only been knitting since October, co I am not sure if it would be better to send it to my pal unblocked. I have ideas about how to do it, but it is about 6 feet long so I am not sure where to do it.

On another note, I received my scarf and will post a pic soon.

Merry Christmas to all

Hi all - I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Day. Mine was very tame. Lunch at Mum's - yum. It was the first Christmas my 3 year old new about Santa and he was so excited. It made the day so much better.

I have finally started my scarf - I love the way it is looking. The wool I dyed looks great even if I do say so myself!!!! I will definately be making one for me to keep.

Anyway, I hope you all have a safe and happy holidays.
