6. Colours you like: LOVE pink - also love light blues, any shade of

9 . fibres you hate/allergies: Anything scratchy or really fuzzy (like

up for cool colors, new patterns, crochet and knit, cute little
attachments (like crocheted flowers) and I love variety so length and
style is up in the air too! Pretty much the only thing I'd not really
care for is something thick and scratchy. I LOVE soft so that's the
biggest thing for me :)

MITTENS - Mia's questionnaire

My screen name is Mia. My blog is Knit and Play with Fire - http://knitplawithfire.typepad.com/mia/

I tend to wear a lot of blues (I am a fire fighter), pinks, purples, reds. I prefer jewel tones that are pure colors. I do not wear yellow or greens that have a yellow undertone.

I like all fibers except acrylic and scratchy wools I love cashmere and quivet but I would never expect some one to knit me something out of those fibers because of the price. I buy and knit those fibers for me.

I like scarves of all lengths. My head circumference if needed is 21 inches/53 cms. The width of my hand if needed is 3 inches/8 cms measured across the knuckles.

As to solid or variegated, I am open to a surprise since I like both. The same answer applies to cables or lace. And I don’t mind crochet since my best blogging friend is also a crocheter. I can crochet a scarf as well but I prefer knitting.

[edit] My hand measures 7 inches from the tip of my middle finger to the heel of my hand.

15. miscellaneous info (including if you would like the chance to have a crocheted scarf):
I enjoy bright colors over pale ones, except for pale lichen greens. Love bright teal/blue combos. Can't wear pinks well--I'm a redhead. I wear scarves constantly--thick ones in winter for warmth, long skinny scarves all year for fashion, and I don't mind a bit of glitz or boucle, though I'm more of a slubby or smooth yarn person. I like both plain scarves and scarves that make a statement, depending on my mood. I'm wild for the Iris Shreirer short-row multidirectional modular patterns. I do like some crocheted scarves, especially freeform, but I can't crochet in return, only knit. I wear plain, neutral coats other clothing so that I can add any color of scarf for accent. In reality, no matter what colors or style a scarf is made in, I will appreciate it and enjoy it for the thought and effort that went into its creation, and will wear it with pride. I've never received a knitted or crocheted gift I haven't loved, except for one lavender crocheted very fussy poncho. Oh--I'm a major animal lover, so "knitting clean" is not important to me---if stray dog or cat hairs end up in the scarf, my critters and I will love it. However, knowing not everyone feels this way, I will carefully wash, block and dry the scarf I knit in a critter-free room before packaging it up!

1. Name: Leisel Clayton Blogger handle: - the resident knothead
2. Scarf only
4. blog URL sagebrush.typepad.com/knotagain
6. Colours you like; 7. colours you hate
It's all about shades for me. Lavendar and sage are two of my favorites, but rose, rust, peach, a lot of blues and greens (esp. blue-greens), tan, chocolate, burgundy... the stash photo album on my blog might give you some more ideas.
I don't really like much in the yellow family, bright greens (lime, grass, spring green), or primary orange... and hot pink is not my color.
I like smokey colors, but not muddy colors.
8. fibres you like
I'm pretty easy... I don't disdain any particular fiber, although I do like something soft, not scratchy.
9 . fibres you hate/allergies
I am allergic to rabbits... I get a reaction when I knit or crochet with angora, BUT I don't have much of a problem wearing it or handling it a bit (and ohhhh... it's so soft!). I think the process of knitting/crocheting with it must rub a lot of the dander off onto my hands and get it into the air too much.
10. prefered scarf length
Oh... good question... I've never really measured. I'm not into the REALLY long ones, but I don't know a specific length.
13. solid or variegated?
it's all good, although some variegated yarns don't cooperate with some patterns.
14. cables or lace?
I like both.

8. fibres you like
Soft and durable!

9 . fibres you hate/allergies
Anything scratchy or novelty yarn. I despise novelty yarn.

10. prefered scarf length
Being me, I prefer long scarves, being in the south, thin scarves too. No
need for huge bulky stuff.

13. solid or variegated?
I do like some solids, and some variegated. Have fun with it. I love
handpainted stuff (handpaintedyarn.com is my personal weakness), but some
stuff with slightly heathered looks are great too. Just choose whatever you
think I'd like and I'm sure I'll love it!

14. cables or lace?
Typically speaking, cables are a little bulkier than I go for. There are
some great cable scarf patterns though. I guess if I had to choose, lace.
But not hyper girly or anything.

15. miscellaneous info (including if you would like the chance to have a

9 . fibres you hate/allergies
Not fond of acrylic
10. prefered scarf length
Longer is better than shorter, but I'm easy

7. colours you hate - um... pukey ones? I don't look good in yellow based colors so colors like tomato red or shrek green look VERY bad on me.
8. fibres you like - all natural fibers are a big hit. I love alpaca. As long as it's soft I'm not too finiky.
9 . fibres you hate/allergies - No allergies. I'm not a huge fan of any novelty yarns. I love things that are soft so I've made exceptions based on softness but I tend to stay away from acryllics. Not big on the fluffy eylash stuff at all.
10. prefered scarf length - long (around 60" usually) though I don't mind a nice short one if it's lacey
13. solid or variegated? varigation, as long as it is subtle, is definatly something I enjoy
14. cables or lace? Either. I love both.
15. miscellaneous info (including if you would like the chance to have a crocheted scarf) Oooh. A crocheted scarf would be cool. I really don't care if my scarf has anything specific (like lace or cables or whatever) as long as my pal has fun making it. Thanks!

6. I love any shades of purple. (Lilac, lavender...if it's purple, I love
it.) I also like gray, black, blue, and red. There is just something snazzy
about wearing a bright red scarf on a dreary winter morning in NYC.
7. I don't really hate any color and I will knit in any color that my pal
likes. But I am not crazy about pink, so I would not want a pink scarf for
myself.

10. 68 inches, nothing shorter than that, please.

15. I have always wanted a scarf in a leaf pattern, or cable braid, celtic
braid. I like scarfs with details, not just plain garter stitch. One of my
favorite books is Knitting on the Edge. The scarf on the front cover is
amazing and inspiring. I don't expect my pal to go crazy and make me
something that would be crazy time consuming. I am just happy to receive
something that someone hand made for me.

Just checking in

Wow the list of participants has really grown! It looks like a fun group of people, most of whom I don't yet know so ladies, I look forward to getting to know you. Right now my scarf project is just rumblings in the back of my mind with Christmas knitting and other projects in the foreground at the moment. I'm furiously knitting away on Madli's Shawl and doing a row here and there on some Jaywalker socks when I need mindless knitting. Can't wait to see who my match will be for the scarf exchange.

Woo! I made the deadline!

Glad to be included in this exchange and as a new knitter what a challenge! I am delighted to have a legitimate reason to be going to the yarn shop.

If someone could post the code for adding the button to my blog I would appreciate it.

Would you like to be an angel?

We're after a few volunteers who would like to be 'angels' for the scarf Exchange. We need angels for both the scarf only and scarf set groups.

What is an angel?
An angel is someone who comes in and sends off a scarf or scarf set when someone's pal has dropped out unexpectedly.

What do you need to do as an angel?
We need you to make a extra scarf or scarf set in colours/materials of your choice. We don't know who is going to drop out (and we hope there won't be anyone dropping out) so we can't tell you what colours/materials to use. We also don't know whether we will be calling on you to send your angel scarf. So, the next best thing, I guess, would be for you to make a scarf or scarf set that you would wear or can give away easily.

When do the angel scarves (or scarf sets) need to be ready?
I think it would be good if you can have them ready by the mid/end February 2005 so that the people who have been left out in the cold won't have to wait too long.

What do you get in return?
What? You mean that the gratitude of the recipient is not enough? Okay, I was just kidding. We will try to redirect to you the scarf going to the person who dropped out. This is not always possible, especially is we were to find out only at the very end that he/she dropped out. So, you'll have our gratitude, that of the recipient, and a warm fuzzy feeling in your heart that yu did something special for someone else. (all together now, "awwwww....")

So, if you want to be a scarf angel, email us here. Thank you!

URGENT: Immediate attention required

for those who have not declared a group (either scarf only, or knitting a set (scarf + hat or mittens), please contact me to let me know where to put you.. (This group includes three people... Michaele, JeaneF, and Jena). If you do not contact one of us by Nov 10th, we will place you in the scarf only group by default.

for those who have not accepted the invitation to join the blog, it is IMPERATIVE that you accept the invitation by November 10th. If you fail to do so, you will be dropped from the exchange. Please check your spam folder of your email or email Celia to obtain a new invitation to join. (This group includes DebID, Lisa, Su, and JeaneF)

Last note: please get your questionnaires in if you haven't done so already. The earlier we get them in, the faster we can get your matches to you! We hope everyone is looking forward to the scarf exchange as much as the two of us. While the season is changing to warmer weather for Celia, the weather has turned to the chilly side here in the USA for me. Can't wait for a scarf and mittens to help keep me warm...
